Please note that Italian legislation on visas provides that the following foreign citizens can return to Italy without the need for a visa:
- foreigners in possession of a receipt for the renewal of their residence document,
- foreigners in possession of an application receipt for the first residence permit for family reasons, subordinate work and self-employment,
These foreign citizens can return to Italy without the need for a visa if:
- they exclusively use an external border crossing in Italy to return, without passing through other Schengen countries;
- show the following documents at border controls in Italy:
- receipt duly stamped by the Italian Police upon leaving Italy;
- the travel document;
- [only in case of renewal] copy of the expired residence permit.
