At the Municipal Assembly of Beira, the ceremony for the conferment of the Order of the Star of Italy upon Dr Nelson Castiano Chigande Moda will take place on 23 September. He will be awarded the honour by the Ambassador of Italy, Gabriele Annis, in recognition of his outstanding merits in promoting dialogue for peace.
The conferment of this honour is part of a long professional and institutional career marked by a constant commitment to the promotion of international cooperation, with a particular focus on Mozambique.
In the country, Dr Moda actively participated, as a member of the Community of Sant’Egidio delegation, in the negotiation process that led to the signing, in August 2019, of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement between FRELIMO and RENAMO. This experience was complemented, since 2016, by his work as a consultant for the Delegation of the European Union in Mozambique, where he provided a valuable contribution to political negotiations and technical mediation.
Taken together, these experiences reflect a professional and personal path consistently dedicated to peace, dialogue and international cooperation: values that find their natural recognition in the Star of Italy, an honour conferred by the President of the Republic upon those who have acquired particular merit in promoting the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Italy and other countries.
