The second Peace Concert, organised by the Italian Embassy in Maputo as part of the Mozita 2026 programme, is scheduled for 3 October 2026 at 6.30 p.m. at the Cine-Teatro Scala in Maputo.
The concert commemorates the General Peace Accords, signed in Rome in 1992, which put an end to Mozambique’s bloody civil war.
This year, Italian musicians from the Luigi Boccherini Conservatory of Lucca will perform, led by Italian conductor and composer Girolamo Deraco, together with the Xiqitsi orchestra, led by conductor Eldevina Materula.
The concert will feature lyric arias from the Italian repertoire, orchestral pieces and, in its world premiere, an original composition dedicated to Mozambique and to peace, composed by Girolamo Deraco and entitled United We Sing, with lyrics by Eyal Lerner. Also by Deraco will be a piece entitled Nubes sunt pulchrae, with lyrics by Alessandro J. Bianchi, marking the eight-hundredth anniversary of the death of St Francis, patron saint of Italy. A premiere by composer Gabriele Marchetti will also be performed, dedicated to the Xiqitsi orchestra and winner of an internal call held by the composition class of the Boccherini Conservatory, taught by Deraco.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the entire population.
