PAPER RESIDENCE CARDS OF FAMILIES OF EU CITIZENS NO LONGER BE VALID FROM 3rd AUGUST 2023

We wish to inform that new EU security regulations on residence cards issued to citizens of the European Union and their family members require that family members of Italian or EU citizens holding a paper residence card will have to update their document to the new version. The current paper version will no longer be valid as of 3th August 2023.

In particular art. 8 of EU Reg. 2019/1157 (gradual elimination of existing residence cards), attached to this news, provides that residence cards will no longer be valid at the expiry date (if prior to 08/03/2023) or in any case by 3 August 2023 if the latter date is prior to the expiry date of the document.

Holders of expired and not yet renewed paper residence cards who need to apply for a visa to enter Italy will be able to request the issuance of a free EU tourism/family C-type visa (90 days, multiple).

Those who has already applied for a new document will still be able to return to Italy with the receipt of the application without having to apply for a visa.
