
Gabriele Phillip Annis, Ambassador of Italy in Maputo
Born in Oristano on 28 July 1969, after graduating in Law from the University of Bologna, he obtained a Master of Science Degree in International Relations from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, in 1997. Following a competitive examination, on 30 December 1999 he entered the Diplomatic Career.
After an initial assignment at the Press and Information Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2002 he was appointed Consul in Belo Horizonte.
In 2006 he was appointed First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in New Delhi.
In 2010 he returned to Rome to serve at the Directorate General for Resources and Innovation of the Ministry, at the Unit for Trade Union Relations, Innovation and Simplification.
In 2012 he was appointed Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs at the Embassy of Italy in Brasilia.
In 2016 he was appointed Ambassador to Paraguay.
In 2020 he returned to the Ministry to serve as Chief of Staff of the Undersecretary of State.
In 2021 he was appointed as Head of the External Relations Unit of the Directorate General for the European Union.
In 2022 he served as Head of the International Relations Department of the City of Rome.
Since 10 January 2025 he serves as Ambassador to Mozambique, Botswana and Eswatini
In 2010 he was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
