The Italian Navy ship Luigi Rizzo visits the Port of Maputo (April 8-11th)

The Italian Navy ship Luigi Rizzo will arrive in the Port of Maputo on the morning of Tuesday, April 8th, to stay there until the 11th of April, when it will resume its mission of patrolling and protecting commercial traffic in the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean area, as part of the European Union operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta.

The frigate Rizzo is the flagship ship of the European mission, currently under the Italian leadership entrusted to Rear Admiral Davide Da Pozzo. During its stay in Maputo, the crew of the frigate, under the command of Giuseppe Lucafò, will be engaged in an intense series of activities in the context of the bilateral cooperation with the Mozambican armed forces and meetings with civil society, coordinated by the Italian Embassy.

The visit of the ship Rizzo, a new generation FREMM-class frigate launched in 2017, is also aimed at signing a new cooperation program between the Italian Navy and the Mozambican Navy, which aims to further strengthen dialogue and military cooperation in the field of maritime security.

During the visit to the ship, a mass will be celebrated on board, open to the public, which will be held on Friday, April 11th, at 10 am. Anyone wishing to participate can send an email to the address culturale.maputo@esteri.it, communicating:

  1. name and surname
  2. license plate of the vehicle with which they intend to access the port.

Requests will be collected until Wednesday, April 9th COB, and available places will be assigned based on the order in which the messages are received.
