The event, scheduled for 8 and 9 June in Maputo, was organised by the Embassy of Italy in Maputo, the ICE/ITA Office in Maputo, and the Italian-Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCMI).

The mission brought together a delegation of 21 Italian companies, accompanied by representatives of the main business associations (ANCE, ANIE, CNA, OICE). On the morning of 8 June, the delegation met, at their respective ministries, with the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources Fernando Rafael, and the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estêvão Tomás Rafael Pale, reflecting the high-level political attention with which Mozambique welcomed the Italian presence.

The afternoon plenary session opened with remarks by the Mayor of Maputo Rasaque Silvano Manhique and the Minister of Transport and Logistics João Jorge Matlombe. The latter clearly expressed the Mozambican vision of the partnership: “We want to grow together. We want Mozambique, with its companies, to grow alongside the Italian companies willing to invest.” Italy’s Ambassador Gabriele Annis then read out the written message of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.

Tajani framed the mission within the growth diplomacy strategy that guides Italian foreign policy towards the African continent, recalling the visit to Rome last December by the President of the Republic of Mozambique Daniel Francisco Chapo, and the second Italy-Africa Summit held in Addis Ababa in February 2026. “In Mozambique, we want to lay the foundations for lasting industrial partnerships, making available the best that Italy can offer in all the most innovative sectors,” the Minister wrote, underlining that the entire internationalisation team — ICE, SACE, SIMEST and CDP — is “fully mobilised and at the service of our companies.” On future prospects, Minister Tajani concluded: “The future of the economic partnership with Mozambique is full of potential, and I am certain that, through teamwork among Institutions, businesses and associations, we will succeed in turning it into shared growth, jobs, investment and prosperity.”

Opening the session, Ambassador Annis underlined the significance of the Italian presence: “Italy is returning as a protagonist in Mozambique with its investments in support of the country’s development and growth. The delegation of Italian companies and business associations present today — among the most important in Italy — is proof of this.”

The proceedings were structured around three panels of debate between Italian and Mozambican public and private sector operators, preceded by the presentation of the Eurocam report on the business climate in Mozambique.

The first panel, moderated by Nicola Del Vecchio (Managing Director of MSC Mozambique), addressed logistics corridors and investment opportunities, with the participation of CFM (Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique), OICE, and the World Bank. The document marks a concrete result in Italian-Mozambican cooperation in the field of sustainable urban regeneration and paves the way for structured interventions in the cities of Pemba and Chimoio, provincial capitals. As Minister Albino stated: “The partnership between Mozambique and Italy is not limited to business; it represents a genuine fabric of friendship and cooperation that binds two brotherly peoples.”

The mission will conclude tomorrow, 9 June, with a morning dedicated to bilateral meetings between companies in the Italian delegation and Mozambican public and private counterparts, with the aim of translating the opportunities identified during the panels into concrete business relationships.
