Today, Ambassador Gabriele Annis presented MOZITA 2026, the Italian Embassy’s promotional cultural programme in Maputo. The 2026 edition follows the first edition, MOZITA50, launched in 2025 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mozambique.<\/p>\n
The MOZITA programme was created with the aim of building a space for dialogue between the two countries through the involvement of Italian cultural excellence, fostering contact between Italian and local artists and opening a space for exchange that is inclusive of all.<\/p>\n
In 2025, events ranged from music, with the organisation of the Jazz Festival curated by saxophonists Enzo Favata and Moreira Chonguica, to cinema, with screenings and workshops as part of the Italian Cinema Festival, which also featured actor Filippo Scotti, star of Paolo Sorrentino’s film The Hand of God. Contemporary art was also represented, through the first MOZITA artistic residency, which brought artist Camilla Alberti to Maputo, where she engaged with the local art scene to produce a work rooted in research and dialogue with Mozambican art.<\/p>\n
For 2026, MOZITA offers a new programme of cultural events that \u2014 in addition to building on the philosophy and highlights that drew wide audiences to the first edition, including the Jazz Festival, the Italian Cinema Festival, the Concert for Peace on 4 October, and the integrated promotional series on Italian cuisine and language \u2014 will expand both its initiatives and the cities involved.<\/p>\n
Through the project A Bridge Made of Art, supported by the Ministry of Culture under the Mattei Plan, a series of professional training seminars for young Mozambican artists, led by Italian instructors, will be offered starting from the end of April.<\/p>\n
The story of the land and those who work it will be at the heart of a photography exhibition by Marco Palombi, who carried out a reportage in the provinces of Manica and Sofala to document the changes taking place in the local agricultural sector, partly driven by Italian development cooperation.<\/p>\n
Following the activities of the Italian Design Day held at Eduardo Mondlane University on 24 March, Made in Italy will return to the spotlight this autumn with participation in Mozambique Fashion Week.<\/p>\n
Building on the results achieved by the previous edition, which included the participation of Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, MOZITA 2026 plans to organise a new business mission, this year dedicated to the infrastructure and construction sector \u2014 areas crucial to the country’s economic development and home to leading Italian companies operating internationally.<\/p>\n
The success of MOZITA50 was made possible in part thanks to the support of Italian companies operating in Mozambique, including Renco, BCI, Inalca, COTUR, Eni, Bonatti, Messina and Leonardo. Ambassador Annis called on members of the Mozambique-Italy Chamber of Commerce to renew this commitment.<\/p>\n
