Aiming to facilitate the use of the services offered by the consular section of the Embassy to compatriots residing or temporarily present in Mozambique, the Kingdom of Eswatini and Botswana, as well as to foreign citizens residing in those countries, we have briefly described in this page the most frequently requested services.

HOW TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CONSULAR SECTION
Access to consular services is governed by the "Prenot@mi" appointment booking system so as to ensure users the certainty of the time of the appointment and avoid waiting times.
Currently all consular services can be booked online.
Before booking an appointment, please carefully read the Consular Services page. The chosen service will have to be specified in the "Annotations" field.
Should you wish to speak to a consular officer about your application for consular services which is being processed, call the number 20606571, which is attended Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 1 pm. AIRE REGISTRATION (free service)
Users intending to reside abroad for more than 6 months are required to register with the AIRE (Register of Italian Residents Abroad) through the consular offices competent for the territory. Click here for further information on AIRE.
To register with AIRE it is strongly recommended to use the FAST-IT application currently accessible through online registration. Please note that in the future access will only be possible with SPID authentication. Click here for further information on SPID.
In case of difficulty in accessing the documentation can be sent by e-mail. The required documentation is the following:
• completed and signed enrolment form;
• identity document of each member of the family unit;
• proof of residence. Among the accepted documents are: DIRE, rental contract, employment contract, user in their own name, long-stay visa, local driving license, etc.
PASSPORT (paid service)
The application for the issuance of the passport can be anticipated by e-mail in order to allow the citizen to go to the consular office only for the acquisition of fingerprints (not required up to 11 years included), the payment of the consular perception and the immediate release of the document, except for technical problems. The documentation is as follows:
• Duly completed and signed application form;
• Two passport-size photographs (35x40 mm). Click to view the photo requirements;
• Payment of the consular fee directly at the Embassy preferably via POS in local currency (for amount and methods, see the consular fees table);
In the presence of minor children, it is always necessary to acquire the consent of the other parent (click to download form).
To issue a passport to minors, it is necessary to acquire the consent of both parents (click to download form).

REGISTRATION OF CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS (free service)
To register in Italy birth, marriage and death certificates of Italian citizens issued by the competent Mozambican authorities, it is requested that the following documentation be delivered - even by a another person:
- Application form;
- For Mozambique: Original act issued by the "Conservatoria do Registo Civil" of the Mozambican municipality; the deed must be legalized through the "Direcção Nacional dos Registos e Notariados" in Maputo and the "Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros e Cooperação";
- For Botswana and the Kingdom of Eswatini: Original document accompanied by Apostille legalization issued by the competent authorities;
- translation of the deed. It is recommended to check the translation before delivering it to the consular office in order not to slow down processing times. The consular office will be responsible for certifying the conformity of the translation.
VISAS
The issuance of visas is managed centrally in Italy. The procedure requires a minimum of 4 working days which may increase depending on the particular workloads. It is therefore essential that the application is submitted AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEFORE THE SCHEDULED DEPARTURE.
