Marco Conticelli


Ambassador Conticelli assumed his duties in Maputo on 19th September 2016. Prior to his appointment, he was Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Bulgaria (2012-2016) and he held various positions both in Rome and abroad.

Born in Florence on the 14th of September 1961, he graduated in Political Science at the University of Florence in 1985 and then joined the Foreign Office in 1987 (Directorate General for Human Resources).

In 1989 he was posted in Khartoum (Sudan) as Deputy Head of Mission and in 1991 he was nominated Consul of Italy in Seville (Spain) on the occasion of the ‘92 Universal Exhibition.

He came back at the Foreign Office in 1995 in the Directorate General for Political Affairs.

In 1998 he continued his carrier abroad as Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi (India) and from 2002 as First Counsellor for Human Rights at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva (Switzerland).

In 2006 he was back in Rome at the Directorate General for the European Union, where he held a number of positions, including that of Coordinator for EU Migration Policies. In 2010 he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.

Ambassador Conticelli is married and has two children.
