Accompanying certificate for minors under 14 years of age

Until the age of 14, Italian minors may expatriate on condition that they travel accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian, or that the name of the person or entity/airline to whom the minor is entrusted is mentioned on the passport or on an accompanying certificate (Article 3, letter a) of Law no. 1185 of 21.11.1967). Custody may also take place in favour of several persons or airlines.

The certificate or mention in the passport is normally valid for a maximum of 6 months, for a single outward and/or return journey with a specific destination. It is issued free of charge by the Consular Office of the Embassy for all children under 14 years of age residing in Mozambique, Botswana and Eswatini, upon the express request of their parents, who may request it by presenting the accompanying certificate, which can be found in Forms.

The certificate can be signed at the Embassy in the presence of the consular officer or sent, also by e-mail, enclosing a copy of a parent’s identity document (please note that the signature of the parent or guardian of non-European citizenship must necessarily be affixed in the presence of the consular officer for authentication).
