Passports and emergency travel documents

To issue a passport, you must make an appointment and present yourself at the consular office of the Embassy at the booked time with the following documentation:

  • passport application form signed by the person concerned;
  • two recent photographs (identical, frontal, in colour, format 35 X 40 mm);
  • a residence permit or proof of actual domicile in the District.
  • if the applicant has children under the age of 18, declaration of the absence of reasons impeding the issuance of the passport, regardless of the applicant’s marital status (single, married, separated or divorced);
  • if the applicant is a child under the age of 18, the consent of both parents;

For citizens not resident in Mozambique, Botswana and Eswatini, the issue of a passport can only take place after the Consular Office has requested and obtained authorisation and delegation from the Office (Police Headquarters or Italian Consulate) competent for the territory of residence. It should therefore be borne in mind that the necessary delegation of the competent Police Headquarter/Consulate could lengthen the issuing time.

Passport application and consent forms can be found under Forms. Please note that the signature of the parent who is not a citizen of the European Union must be necessarily certified, therefore the person concerned must present himself/herself in person at the consular office in the Embassy.

Passports for citizens of legal age are valid for ten years. Minors must also necessarily have an individual passport, with a validity of 3 (for minors from 0 to 3 years) or five years (from 3 to 18 years).

Minors under 14 years of age travel abroad accompanied by one of their parents or legal guardian. Should they be entrusted to other natural or legal persons (Entities/Air companies), they must necessarily be provided with a special mention in their passport or with an accompanying certificate (for further information, please refer to Accompanying certificate for minors up to 14 years of age).
